Employer survey finds businesses want repeal of health reform Posted: February 11th, 2011

By Maryalene LaPonsie

In the wake of a Congressional vote to repeal health reform, a new study found that most employers want the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) scrapped. Conducting a web survey of employers, Michigan-based consulting firm Marketing Strategies International identified four key PPACA findings:

  1. 62 percent of employers support a repeal of health reform while 29 percent strongly support a repeal
  2. 72 percent of employers disagree that health reform will lower their business' health care cost
  3. 63 percent of employers disagree that health reform will make their businesses more competitive
  4. 63 percent of employers disagree that health reform will help them attract and retain workers

Despite the overall belief that the PPACA will not directly help their businesses, 58 percent of employers stated health reform was long overdue. In addition, 70 percent of respondents said some provisions of the law should remain in place.

Last month, the GOP-controlled Congress voted to repeal the PPACA. However, the Democratic-controlled Senate is not expected to consider PPACA repeal.
