How the Health Insurance Quote Lacks Punch Under Obama Plan Posted: October 30th, 2009

The rumbling of dissention concerning health care reform has placed a firm divide in Capitol Hill and with the American Public. Here are ways the President's new strategy may weaken the benefits of your health insurance quote.

Health Insurance Quotes Deceiving, Coverage Tardy Under Obama's Plan

According to a Kaiser Family Foundation survey, Americans expect insurance relief within a year of Democratic reform. Unfortunately, the changes may be much slower to come and health insurance quotes won't have nearly the impact consumers expect.

How Long Before Health Insurance Quotes Become an Option for All

Two hot issues dominated the Kaiser Family Foundation survey: when consumers without coverage will receive assistance in purchasing insurance and when health insurance companies will be forced to accept preexisting conditions. The survey reveals the majority of Americans believe coverage assistance and preexisting condition acceptance will come as soon as next year (36 and 34 percent, respectively).

However, if Congress is any indicator, most members don't expect real changes to come until 2013. The New York Times reports that, because healthcare accounts for one-sixth of the nation's economy, the process is much more easily described than completed.

How Your Health Insurance Quote May Suffer Under Obama

Change hurts--and the health insurance industry might just prove it. Shawn Tully, CNN Money's Fortune editor at large, describes several key ways that your insurance coverage benefits may actually decrease under President Obama's new plan.

  • Plan Features. The federal government may move towards standard benefits packages
  • Real Costs. Even if you're healthy, you may be paying for other peoples' care
  • Deductible Options. Deductibles may lower, meaning more out-of-pocket
  • Current Coverage. Even if you like your current plan, it may not be offered later
  • Physician Choice. The push for in-network may trump your choice of doctors

While an overhaul of the health system looks inevitable, the jury is still out on how this administration's plan will meet your needs.
