Don't have health insurance? Nowadays, it can cost you your life. A Harvard research study that finds nearly 45,000 deaths blamed on a lack of health insurance. And that makes finding cheap health insurance more important than ever before.

Cheap Health Insurance Not Only Saves You Money--It Can Save Your Life

Both sides of the federal government are locked in a struggle to provide funding for millions of Americans without health insurance. If this battle hasn't hit close to home yet, it may soon enough.

The Cheapest Health Insurance May Be Government-Provided

At least, that's what the public seems to believe. In the latest New York Times/CBS News poll, the American people could support a government-run insurance plan that would compete with private insurers. It appears that the unease of the current health insurance situation has both Congress and the public considering any and all potential fixes. These may include subsidies for those who can't afford coverage, an increase in taxes and other price-influencing initiatives design to improve the percentage of insurability.

The phone-driven study provides a window into the attitudes and opinions of those most affected by the healthcare challenge. Other illuminating findings extracted from the study include:

  • 72 percent support a government-administered insurance plan
  • 60 percent said Washington would succeed at reducing costs
  • 60 percent would be willing to pay higher taxes to make sure that all were insured

How to Find Cheap Health Insurance Options

If you're without coverage, chances are that you can't afford to wait until the government wheels begin turning. Medical calamities can--and do--hit without warning. Their financial implications can be ruinous to those with little or no savings to fall back on. The Strategist explains that more than 13 million young adults--more than 750,000 in New York alone--are risking financial ruin by living uninsured. That's why finding cheap health insurance should be on your list of priorities.

However, it can be easier said than done. Rohit Chopra, blogger with The Strategist, reveals advice on finding cheap health insurance.

  • The cheapest health insurance is always with an employer
  • Obama's stimulus package includes a 65 percent subsidy toward continuing employer-provided insurance
  • High-deductible plans are the most affordable per month, particularly for young, healthy people
  • High-deductible plans feature deals for lower-priced medical procedures

The bottom line is that while government strategies hold promise, it's up to you to find a cheap health insurance coverage plan that fits your budget and lifestyle.
